Search engine optimization (SEO) is used to improve the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines. SEO stands different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
Search engine optimization is all about doing whatever is necessary to get the pages of your website indexed (i.e. added to the pages that the search engines have ‘listed’) and then ranked. It is a many faceted art form or science, one that is constantly changing and shifting.
The vast majority of people who are using the net on a daily basis are doing so to seek information looking for answers to problems. Although there are many ways that people can search the net for what they seek, the majority still use major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.
In order to search, they type a search word or phrase into a search box on the page and hit the return button.
When that happens, they will be shown a search results page that presents them with a couple of different types of information. every result shown is there for a specific reason. This is because the search engine ‘thinks’ that the results shown are the most relevant to the search term being used of the many millions of individual web pages they have listed.
